GIA Tooling Team Building Event

Nothing brings people together than playing with LEGO and solving problems.  It was with that in mind that I organised a fun team building event at my current assignment at the KPN GIA Tooling Team.  I packed my car full of NXT sets and other paraphernalia and spare parts.

The playing field, about 1.5 x 2mCrates with robot stuff

The playing field was simple, the assignment, not so much.  We had a total of 13 players, so they were divided into teams of 3 with one team of 4.  The challenge was to build a robot that can navigate the line to the other square, pick up an empty soda can, turn around, drive back and leave the can inside the start square.  The line was about 3cm wide so very easy to follow.  The squares were made with aluminium tape, so they were far more reflective than the broken white background.

The guys seemed to have a real blast.  We had a mix of management, testers and programmers, so I divided up the teams to ensure an even-ish spread of talents and abilities.
