I have a problem. It’s not life threatening, but important none the less. I am need of no less than 4 names for my NXT bricks. Do you think you could come up with a cool name that is no more than 8 characters long? I will pick the 4 best one and you’ll have the dubious honour of having a brick named after something you came up with! A win-win situation, if you ask me!
One of the bricks a little bit damaged, it has a broken screen, so perhaps try and think of a name that would reflect that; Quasimodo is too long, I’m afraid. So let your imagination run wild. Post your names in the comments below. I will accept names for nomination until Tuesday 2 February 20:00 Central European Time (CET).
Pictures of the bricks with the names on them in nice black lettering will be shows in a post in the days after that. Here’s a picture of one my bricks named “Pepper” [LINK], so you can get an idea of what it’ll look like.
I’d say go with Winnie-the-Pooh character names, eeyore or crud for the broken brick, then you can have tigger and a few others:

Most names are short, and each character is v. different.
Ok, that’s my opinion 😉

Here are several, I like famous people who contributed to our technology and the arts…
Leonardo (or Leo, or Leonard)
Galileo (can’t think of any nicks)
Donatello (or Don, or Donny, or Donald)
Raphael (or Ralph)
Michael (or Mike) (Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni)
Dennis (Ritchie, Inventor of C programming language)
Brian (Kernighan, partner with Dennis Ritchie in C language programming book)
Hans (Lippershey, Netherlands, telescope)
Isaac (Newton, We know what he did)
Good luck with your naming.
I’d go for:
Asimov
Tesla
Edison
and Einstein
Have a nice day,
~Sidneys1
How about the names of the 7 Dwarfs ?
Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Sneezy, Bashful
I’d have expected Pepper to be a black NXT 😀
And since you have Pepper, why not Salt & Vinager with Cream to top it all off xD
If you have a black brick you want to send to me, I’ll be happy to name it Pepper 🙂
Since we always go with P-names, I vote for:
Pookie
Pretzel
Pecker
Pinto
Ok I’m done.
Rolls
Royce
Silver
Spur
Thats what I would do 🙂 Actually I am thinking of changing the names of my NXTs to Rolls and Royce. Instead of my name and mm101
TOBOR – robot backwards
CRACK – for the one with the broken screen
MARIA – Name of robot from movie Metropolis
CRACK… hmmm, isn’t that maybe not the best name for a supposedly kid friendly kind of robot?
Since your number of NXTs is growing rapidly, you might want to consider the Phonetic Alphabet. All the names are equal or less than 8 characters.
A Alpha
B Bravo
C Charlie
D Delta
E Echo
F Foxtrot
G Golf
H Hotel
I India
J Juliet
K Kilo
L Lima
M Mike
N November
O Oscar
P Papa
Q Quebec
R Romeo
S Sierra
T Tango
U Uniform
V Victor
W Whiskey
X X-ray
Y Yankee
Z Zulu
Here are a few:
Numeric (or alphanumeric) data (My first NXT is named 00000000, the second 00000001)
Einstien (As in “Doc! You disintegrated Einstien” -Back to the Future)
Tile N All (for the broken one. Think tile bricks…or pain relievers)
Kitty (because it most certaintly wouldn’t convince a cat that it was one.)
Digit
Nybles (Either the game or the unit of data, equal to 4 bits, one digit in hexadecimal)
Data (one is his name, the other is not)
RCX (Yeah, SURE you’re an RCX)
Not (This is Not, the droid you’re looking for)
Untitled (Yes it is… it’s title is “untitled”)
Don’tTouch (too late…)
Superca… (lifragilisticexpealidocious…I hope I spelled it right)
SUDO (from Unix-based systems: stands for “Super User DO”)
YouKnowWho (These three have to go together)
No I Don’t (These three have to go together)
Yes You Do (These three have to go together)
How funny. I took the simplest, yet most effective way. 1, 2, 3, & 4. This has some advantages, but it’s not very creative. First, I was easily able to find stickers to put on the front of the NXT. Secondly, I took the NXT .rso files for the numbers, renamed them “! Startup.rso” and downloaded them to each of the respective brick. So now when the brick starts up, I see the brick number on the front and it tells me which brick it is too. If you have several bricks running and you want to know which brick is active or has passed a point in the program, just have it play the startup sound file.
Whatever you choose the names to be, I recommend you doing a few of these things, it turns out to be pretty handy. In my case, boring and uncreative, but handy.
I like the idea of that. Wile I’m at it, I think I’ll create my own sound files and customize the other sounds. Why didn’t I think of this sooner? I’ve already made sound files using wav2rso2wav (comes with BricxCC, and can be run separately, if you download it seperately. I have both.)
