Daniele Benedettelli is looking for help, your help! He has developed a new WiFi sensor for the NXT called the NXT2WIFI.
So what is the NXT2WIFI? Obviously it’s a WiFi sensor for the NXT it’s a bit more than that. It also has a web server built into it that allows you to create a web interface right on the sensor itself. You don’t need to have a specific portable device anymore, just something that can read web pages. The NXT2WIFI also features a built-in LiPO battery that can be charged over USB with a Mini-USB connector, which you can see next to the NXT connector on the right.
The NXT2WIFI can do standard TCP and UDP sockets but also SMTP (mail), SNTP (time synchronization) and FTP.
It uses the a high-speed RS485 port to communicate with the NXT.
So why does Dani need the money? He’s looking to take a nice vacation to Hawaii. He wants to do a commercial run of 100 boards and that costs a fair bit of money, € 6000, to be exact. Pledging your donation will ensure that he can do this run as cheaply as possible. So which amounts get you what?
- € 10 or more
Public thanks on project website, and one of his LEGO MINDSTORMS books in digital format. - € 80 or more
Public thanks on project website, and 1 (one) NXT2WIFI device for free. (instead of 100€ + shipping cost) - € 500 or more
Public thanks on project website, and 8 (eight) NXT2WIFI devices for free. (instead of 800€ + shipping cost) - € 1000 or more
Public thanks on project website, and 18 (eighteen) NXT2WIFI devices for free. (instead of 1800€ + shipping cost)
It is safe to pledge, it’s only once when € 6000 has been reached that the funds will be withdrawn from your PayPal account. There are as of 27 March 2012 52 days left to pledge your donation. If the amount is not reached by the end of the deadline, no money will change hands and this run will be cancelled. That would be a crying shame, though.
I am due to receive one of these babies in a few days and I will post about it once I get a chance to play with it. So stay tuned!
Wow, Botbench is hitting wifi sensors pretty hard lately. Awesome!
