I wanted to come up with a fun project for the new Mindsensors GlideWheel-AS Angle Sensor. I wracked my brain as to what I could make that would be fun and not something obvious. Maybe it was my man-flu/Ebola induced fever, but I came up with an idea: a weighing scale, one of those old fashioned pendulum letter scales.
It’s quite a simple model, I’ve created an LDD file which you can download here: [LINK]. It doesn’t include the sensor, obviously, but it’s pretty clear where it should be, especially if you take a look at the picture on the right here. It’s been pre-calibrated but you can recalibrate it quite easily, just follow the instructions on the screen. You can make this with a standard NXT 2.0 set with only the addition of the GlideWheel-AS.
The program will be part of the Driver Suite, but you can download it here for now: [LINK]. You’ll need the latest driver suite (3.1+) to use it.
Nice project…
The Mindsensors Angle Sensor seems visually a far user friendlier version than that made by Hitech. In your opinion, is that the case?
I think they both serve a purpose. As far as visuals are concerned, that is way too personal 🙂 I like the flatness of the GlideWheel-AS but I like the standard NXT sensor look of the HT one. It’s really a case of 6 of one and half a dozen of another.
